The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) and a high-level United States delegation held strategic discussions in Abidjan to explore deeper cooperation and support Côte d’Ivoire’s economic transformation objectives.

The meeting, which took place on November 17 at the AfDB headquarters, reaffirmed both parties’ commitment to expanding collaboration on major projects aligned with the country’s development priorities.

New areas of cooperation were identified for implementation beginning in 2026.

• Private Sector Development: Both sides agreed on the importance of boosting private sector growth. Discussions focused on financing mechanisms and improving the investment climate, especially for US companies exploring opportunities in Côte d’Ivoire.

• Sectoral Alignment: Convergence was noted in key areas such as industrialisation, governance reform, and water and sanitation—all critical sectors for long-term economic development.

• Trade Strategy and Project Pipeline: The US delegation presented its country trade strategy, developed by the US Embassy Prosperity Working Group. Talks further examined procurement processes and reviewed the AfDB’s project pipeline to pinpoint opportunities for collaboration.

Côte d’Ivoire’s economic performance was another highlight of the meeting. The country continues to show strong fundamentals, with projected growth of 6 percent in 2024 and an expected rise to 6.5 percent in 2025 and 2026.

As of the end of October, the AfDB was financing 46 operations in Côte d’Ivoire, totaling about $4.2 billion, underscoring its central role in national development.

The Bank recently approved €39 million in new financing aimed at improving governance and boosting domestic resource mobilization. This initiative supports transparency and enhances the management of public resources—key drivers of sustainable and inclusive growth.

The strengthened partnership between the United States and the African Development Bank signals a shared vision to accelerate Côte d’Ivoire’s push toward structural transformation and broader economic prosperity.
