Uche Nnaji Resigns as Minister

The Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Uche Nnaji, has officially resigned from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet, just three days after an in-depth investigation by PREMIUM TIMES revealed he forged two certificates.

Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga confirmed the resignation on Tuesday, stating that President Tinubu accepted Mr. Nnaji’s decision to step down following “some allegations” linked to the forgery investigation.

According to PREMIUM TIMES, the minister was found to have forged both his bachelor’s degree and NYSC discharge certificates, which he submitted during his ministerial screening in 2023.

The report detailed that both the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) had previously disowned the certificates in question, intensifying the credibility crisis surrounding the minister.

Mr. Nnaji had served as Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology since his appointment on August 16, 2023.

The resignation has sparked discussions about integrity and transparency within the current administration. Critics say the development underscores the need for stricter verification processes for political appointees.

Before his ministerial appointment, Uche Nnaji was the All-Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Enugu State during the 2023 general elections.
