The Nigerian music scene is in mourning following the shocking death of popular traditional musician John Zuya, widely known as John Mai Molo. The singer, who recently concluded a series of cultural performances in Lagos, tragically passed away shortly after returning to his hometown in the Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
Reports indicate that John Mai Molo’s death is being investigated after allegations surfaced that he consumed a poisoned meal. The artist returned to Bauchi on October 16, 2025, after weeks of performing at cultural events. However, the celebration of his successful tour turned to tragedy when he suddenly fell ill just two days later.
Witnesses say the musician collapsed shortly after eating the suspected meal and was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi. Despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead around 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2025.
A close associate and fellow musician, Emma Wakili, confirmed the heartbreaking news in a Facebook post, expressing grief and disbelief over Mai Molo’s untimely death. His body has since been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy as authorities continue investigating the cause of death and the alleged poisoning.
