President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) are actively executing a political strategy designed to secure decisive bloc votes from the South and North-Central geopolitical zones ahead of the 2027 presidential election. This move is a “materialising countermeasure” to consolidate victory, particularly in response to mounting political resistance from influential figures and groups in the core North.

APC insiders revealed that the plan, conceived over five months ago, is intended to cushion the effect of potential threats, ensuring the party sweeps all states in the South, avoiding the losses experienced in 2023. Recent high-profile defections of opposition governors in the South are attributed to the successful implementation of this strategy, leveraging federal influence and targeted alliances.

For the North-Central, the APC’s target is ambitious: securing between 80 to 90 per cent of the region’s votes. The Chairman of the North-Central APC Forum, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, confirmed that party leaders are actively working with the Presidency, citing special treatment for the region, including juicy appointments and infrastructure projects, as leverage.

However, opposition parties, including the PDP and ADC, have dismissed the strategy as “self-deception,” arguing that the APC’s declining popularity and poor governance record will ultimately alienate voters, making the 2027 election a contest between the Nigerian people and the ruling party
