The Rivers State Police Command has issued a strong statement dismissing a viral social media video that falsely claimed an influx of suspected herdsmen and subsequent attacks on communities within the state.
The video, which circulated widely, purported to show an attack by herders being repelled by Ijaw youths in an undisclosed location.
Command spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed on Wednesday that the claims were “entirely false, misleading, and designed to incite panic.” She emphasized that there have been no incidents or reports of herdsmen attacks in any part of Rivers State, attributing the fabricated narrative to “mischief-makers” aiming to undermine peace and stability.
Under the leadership of CP Olugbenga Adepoju, the Command is urging the public to disregard the misinformation and exercise restraint in sharing unverified content.
The police affirmed that robust security measures, including operational patrol teams and surveillance units, remain in place across the state to protect lives and property. Residents are advised to stay calm, remain vigilant, and only rely on official channels for security updates.
