Ducati has confirmed that reigning MotoGP World Champion Marc Marquez will not take part in the remaining races of the 2025 season following a major shoulder injury sustained during the Indonesia Grand Prix. The Spaniard suffered a fracture and ligament damage after crashing on the opening lap of the race earlier this month.

The 32-year-old underwent surgery in Madrid a week after the incident and has since been ruled out for the rest of the season. His team revealed that he will need at least four weeks of complete immobilisation before beginning rehabilitation, making any return this year impossible.

Ducati stated, “Marc will have to spend four weeks with the arm completely immobilised before beginning rehabilitation, so it’s impossible to think about his return to competition this year.” The team had initially hoped for a potential comeback at the Valencia Grand Prix but later confirmed that full recovery is now the priority.

Marquez, who secured his seventh MotoGP world title with five races remaining, reflected on the setback with optimism. “This must not overshadow or make us forget the great goal we achieved this year: becoming World Champions again, and soon we will all celebrate it together,” he said.

Italian test rider Michele Pirro will replace Marquez for the upcoming Malaysian Grand Prix. Despite the abrupt end to his season, Marquez’s 2025 campaign was one of complete dominance, featuring 11 race victories that sealed his first championship title since 2019.
