Pivotal Gathering: Nigerian Guild of Editors Postpones 2025 Conference to November 12-13 in Abuja

The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), the elite professional body representing top media executives across the nation, has announced a schedule adjustment for its flagship event: the All Nigeria Editors Conference (ANEC) 2025. Originally slated for an earlier date, the highly anticipated meeting has been postponed and will now hold from November 12 to 13, 2025, in Abuja.
In a statement released by NGE President, Eze Anaba, and General Secretary, Onuoha Ukeh, the Guild confirmed that the change was necessitated by “circumstances beyond its control.” The Guild offered sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused but gave strong assurances that the event’s quality remains paramount.
Crucially, the NGE confirmed the attendance of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has committed to attending the conference as the Special Guest of Honour to officially declare the event open on November 12. The venue for the two-day conference remains set in the nation’s capital, Abuja.
The ANEC serves as an annual platform for media leaders to dissect critical national issues. The chosen theme for the 2025 conference is deeply relevant to the current political climate: ‘Democratic Governance and National Cohesion: The Role of Editors.’
The discussions will be further anchored by a critical sub-theme: ‘Electoral Integrity and Trust Deficit: What Nigerians Expect in 2027.’
The conference promises robust intellectual engagement with several high-calibre speakers lined up to deliver thought-provoking papers. These include:
Electoral Disputes and Judicial Integrity: Prof. Awa Kalu (SAN), Managing Partner, Awa Kalu & Partners, will navigate the complex relationship between law and politics in election disputes.
Economic and Political Reforms: Prof. Sheriff Ghali Ibrahim, Head of Department, Political Science and International Relations, University of Abuja, will address the imperative of national reforms.
The Evolving Face of Journalism: Prof. Abiodun Adeniyi, Dean, School of Post-Graduate Studies, Baze University, will tackle modern challenges like misinformation, AI disruption, and the growing credibility gap in media.
Media, Terrorism, and National Security: General Lucky Irabor (retd), former Chief of Defence Staff, will address the complex role of the media in reporting on security issues.
The event, which is expected to gather over 500 NGE members and media executives, will conclude with an Executive Session where editors will directly interrogate key government officials and political and business leaders, ensuring a platform for responsible and responsive journalism that promotes national development and cohesion.
