NPFL SLAMS KANO PILLARS WITH POINTS DEDUCTION AND HEAVY FINE

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) board has imposed severe sanctions on Kano Pillars following the violent assault on match officials and players of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) by the club’s fans at the Sani Abacha Stadium on Sunday. The incident occurred after 3SC scored a late equaliser, igniting pitch invasion and violence.

The Disciplinary Action
The NPFL announced the penalties on Monday, targeting both the club’s sporting performance and its finances:

Points and Goals Deduction: Kano Pillars were docked three points and three goals from their cumulative total for the assault on the match officials.

Total Fine: The club was handed a cumulative fine of ₦9.5 million for various infringements, including:

₦4 million for failing to provide adequate security, throwing dangerous objects, and general misconduct.

₦2 million for the assault on the away team players and match officials.

₦2 million as compensatory cost for the treatment and damages sustained by 3SC players and match officials.

₦1.5 million as compensatory damages to the match officials (₦250,000 each).

Stadium Closure: The Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano has been closed indefinitely for all Pillars’ home games. The club has been directed to play its home games for the remainder of the season in Katsina.

Additional Penalty: Kano Pillars must identify and produce the perpetrators of the incident and provide proof of their prosecution to the NPFL within seven days.

The NPFL stated that the decisive action was necessary to address the misconduct and ensure the integrity and safety of the league.
