Nnamdi Kanu appeal

ABUJA, NIGERIA — The brother of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Prince Emmanuel, has alleged that the Abuja Federal High Court refused to issue the necessary warrant to transfer Nnamdi Kanu from Sokoto Prison to Abuja.

The transfer is reportedly required to facilitate the settlement of records, a crucial procedural step for filing an appeal at the Court of Appeal following Kanu’s recent life sentence for terrorism.

Prince Emmanuel provided copies of a summons directing the IPOB leader to appear at the Abuja Federal High Court on November 28, 2025, for the records settlement. He claimed, however, that the court declined to issue the production warrant needed to authorize Sokoto Prison authorities to transport Kanu.

The alleged delay raises uncertainty over the timeline for Kanu’s appeal against his November 20 terrorism conviction. His brother emphasized that without the production warrant, the mandated settlement of records cannot proceed, potentially stalling the appeal process.

This situation underscores perceived friction between the judiciary and Kanu’s legal team regarding the procedural steps required to facilitate his formal appeal, highlighting ongoing tensions in this high-profile case.
