The National Sports Commission (NSC) has announced a significant step toward formally approving Nigeria’s first official Flag Football Federation. This move aims to establish a recognized governance structure for the sport and ensure proper representation of the nation in international competitions.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the NSC clarified that no existing association, either local or international, has previously been officially recognized by the Nigerian government to represent the country in any flag football competition. Under Nigerian law, the NSC holds the statutory authority to regulate and approve sports federations.

The Director General of the NSC confirmed that the commission is currently engaging with all stakeholders in flag football to finalize a unified national federation. The aim is to create an inclusive governance structure that aligns with International Standards and national sports development objectives.

Following the formal Sports Federation Approval, elections for new executive members are expected to be held immediately. The commission reassured athletes and international partners that the new federation will be founded on transparency and best practices to drive Flag Football Development across Nigeria. Details regarding the election timetable and membership requirements are expected to be released shortly.
