Popular Nigerian singer Kingsley Okonkwo, famously known as Kcee, has finally addressed his long-reported feud with fellow highlife artiste Flavour, revealing that he still does not fully understand the cause of their alleged clash. The revelation comes amid ongoing curiosity from fans and industry watchers about the dynamics between the two stars.
The tension first became public in 2024 when Flavour appeared to accuse an unnamed musician of copying his musical style. Although he did not mention anyone specifically, Kcee responded on social media, cautioning against “gatekeeping” Igbo cultural music and reminding the public that he had been active in the Nigerian music industry long before Flavour emerged. The online exchange sparked speculation and rumors that a feud existed between the two celebrated artists.
Speaking in an interview with Yanga FM Lagos, which quickly began trending on social media, Kcee recounted his first encounter with Flavour. According to him, talent manager Soso Soberekon introduced Flavour to him years ago, hoping Kcee would sign the rising star to a record deal. Kcee revealed that he initially declined the offer because he did not see potential in Flavour at the time.
“Till now, I don’t understand the reason for his beef with me, especially that incident where he alleged that someone was copying him,” Kcee said. “I came into the music industry before Flavour. Soso Soberekon brought him to me years ago to sign to my record label. I was already driving exotic cars and balling before he came to Lagos. I told Soso I can’t sign Flavour because I didn’t see potential in him at that time. It wasn’t because I have something against him.”
He clarified that he does not believe the initial rejection is the reason for the tension.“I don’t think that was why he is holding a grudge against me. But time shall tell,” he added, leaving the door open for interpretation about the roots of the alleged feud.
Kcee also reflected on how some of his colleagues have underestimated him over the years. He explained that his humility and preference for letting his work speak for itself have often been mistaken for a lack of confidence or ability. “A lot of my colleagues underrate my talent and my humility also contributed to that. I don’t brag. I don’t need it. But as I always say, time will prove them wrong. Some who doubted me in the past have come to apologize and admitted they were wrong,” he said.
Throughout the interview, Kcee emphasized that his focus remains on creating music and maintaining a consistent work ethic. He noted that misunderstandings and public speculation are common in the Nigerian music industry, but stressed that integrity, consistency, and professionalism are what define an artist in the long run.
The interview provides a rare glimpse into Kcee’s perspective on the rumored feud and his approach to handling professional relationships within the industry. While the details of his relationship with Flavour remain somewhat ambiguous, Kcee’s remarks suggest a desire to move past conflicts and concentrate on his craft.
Fans and followers of both artists have taken to social media to react to Kcee’s interview, with many praising his humility, honesty, and resilience in the face of public scrutiny. The conversation around the feud continues, but Kcee’s words serve as a reminder that dedication, talent, and consistent output often speak louder than rumors and speculation.
Kcee’s reflections highlight a broader lesson for aspiring artists: while the music industry can be competitive and filled with misunderstandings, perseverance, humility, and focus remain key to long-term success. By sharing his story, Kcee underscores the importance of letting achievements define one’s legacy rather than public opinion or conflicts.
