Nigerian singer Euphemia Ekumah, popularly known as GoodGirl LA, has opened up about the emotional and painful journey behind her rise to stardom revealing that her father once disowned her for choosing music over formal education.

In a heartfelt interview with Hip TV, the “Early Momo” crooner recounted the intense pressure she faced from her family to complete her education, despite knowing early on that her passion lay in music.

“I have never regretted not completing school. I wish I never went to school. I wish I left home earlier. That’s my only regret. I wish I never wrote JAMB,” she confessed.

GoodGirl LA explained that she was forced to take the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) exam Nigeria’s university entrance test even though her heart wasn’t in academics. Her breaking point came around age 17 or 18, when she told her parents she wanted to focus entirely on music.

The reaction was swift and painful:

“When I told my parents that I wasn’t interested in going to school anymore, my dad asked me to leave his house. It was crazy. At one point, my dad even disowned me. Then, I left home.”

That moment of rejection marked the start of her independent journey one defined by courage, self-belief, and sacrifice. Like many Nigerian creatives, GoodGirl LA faced the harsh reality of choosing art over tradition, where chasing one’s dreams can come at the cost of family acceptance.

Fortunately, her story didn’t end in estrangement. After gaining recognition and success in the music industry, GoodGirl LA revealed that her family eventually reconciled with her a full-circle moment that underscores the triumph of resilience and purpose.

Her story is more than a celebrity confession — it’s a powerful reminder that staying true to one’s calling often requires walking away from comfort, even when it means being misunderstood. GoodGirl LA’s experience shows that passion, perseverance, and faith can rebuild even the bridges that once seemed burned.
