Former Minister of Interior and ex-Governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has launched a searing attack against his former party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring emphatically that the party has “failed Nigerians” and lost divine mandate.

Speaking at a recent event for his new political platform, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Aregbesola did not mince words, delivering a powerful critique of the APC-led government’s performance across key sectors.

The Divine Verdict: “God Has Left Them”
The most striking comment from Aregbesola was his assertion that the current government has lost spiritual backing.

“God has left the present government,” he declared, adding a religious dimension to his political indictment.

He attributed the party’s alleged failures to a foundation of “selfishness,” noting that they began with the word ‘Emi’ (meaning ‘I’ in Yoruba, a reference to a popular political slogan) instead of ‘Awa’ (meaning ‘We’).

“They are selfish. They started with the word ’emi, instead of awa’. They have been disgraceful in all sectors, in the economy, security, governance, and others,” Aregbesola stated.

A Scathing Review of Government Performance

Aregbesola’s criticism focused on the administration’s inability to deliver on its promises to the Nigerian populace. He highlighted specific areas of failure:

  • Economy: The former governor criticised the government’s economic policies, which he claims have pushed thousands into poverty.
  • Security: He stated that the government has failed in ensuring the security of lives and property.
  • Infrastructure: Aregbesola even took a swipe at infrastructure priorities, alleging that a large percentage of federal roads remain unmotorable while the focus is on less economically impactful projects.

APC Fires Back: “Shredding His Own Résumé”

Unsurprisingly, the APC has swiftly countered Aregbesola’s claims. The party’s leadership, particularly in Lagos State, where Aregbesola spent decades in political office, dismissed his remarks as “an empty boast” and a desperate bid for relevance.

A Lagos APC spokesperson accused Aregbesola of political opportunism, stating he is “shredding his own résumé” by attacking the party that provided the platform for his two-term governorship and ministerial appointment.

“When Aregbe condemns the APC, he is not damaging us – he is shredding his own résumé. Every attack on APC is an attack on the very foundation of his career,” the party retorted.
