Funke Akindele’s Behind The Scenes Smashes Box Office Records, Hits ₦512 Million in Just 12 Days

Nollywood star and filmmaker Funke Akindele has once again reaffirmed her dominance in the Nigerian film industry as her latest cinema release, Behind The Scenes*, records a massive ₦512 million at the box office within only 12 days of release. The feat officially positions the film as the highest-grossing Nollywood movie of 2025 so far.
The film began its cinema journey with advance screenings on December 10 and 11, ahead of its nationwide release on December 12. From its opening weekend, Behind The Scenes enjoyed overwhelming audience turnout, with packed cinemas across Nigeria and Ghana, signaling strong anticipation and positive word-of-mouth.
The film’s distributor, FilmOne Entertainment, confirmed the milestone in a celebratory post shared on its official Instagram page. Describing the achievement as historic, FilmOne expressed gratitude to cinema audiences across West Africa for their continued support and enthusiasm.
“And yet, another history has been made. Thank you, West Africa, for showing up, filling cinemas, and carrying this story with love,” the distributor wrote.
According to FilmOne, Behind The Scenes has not only crossed the ₦500 million mark but has also become the fastest Nollywood movie to do so. The film currently holds multiple records, including being the highest-grossing Nollywood film of 2025, the fastest to hit ₦500 million, and the number one film of the weekend.
“This is what belief looks like,” FilmOne added, while confirming that the film is still showing in cinemas nationwide.
The strong performance builds on an already impressive opening. Behind The Scenes reportedly crossed ₦200 million during its opening weekend, making it the first Nollywood film in 2025 to reach that milestone. At the time, the distributor described the achievement as the biggest opening weekend of the year and revealed that the film broke five different box office opening weekend records, including the highest cinema admissions recorded in 2025.
The film delves into the theme of black tax, a socially relevant subject that resonates with many African families. It stars Scarlet Gomez in the lead role and boasts a rich ensemble cast featuring Funke Akindele, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, Uche Montana, Uzor Arukwe, Ini Dima-Okojie, Adebowale ‘Mr Macaroni’, Ibrahim Chatta, Kamo State, as well as reality TV stars Handi and Wanni Danbaki, among others.
With Behind The Scenes continuing its impressive cinema run, the film further solidifies Funke Akindele’s reputation as one of Nollywood’s most successful and bankable filmmakers. Its record-breaking performance also highlights the growing strength of the Nigerian box office and the increasing appetite for locally produced stories with relatable themes.
As audiences continue to troop into cinemas, industry watchers expect the film’s earnings to climb even higher in the coming weeks.
