All five students of Rivers State University (RSU) who were abducted earlier this week have been successfully rescued by security forces, the Police confirmed on Thursday. The students Prince London, Azubuike Kelechukwu, Elizabeth Aniete, Onyebuchi Precious, and London Sampson were kidnapped from their residence near the institution’s Satellite Campus in Emohua Local Government Area on Tuesday.

The dramatic rescue operation was executed by the Rivers State Police Command’s Tactical Teams, working in coordination with other security agencies and community members in Rumuodogo 2. Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed that all five RSU students were recovered unhurt and have been taken to a hospital for medical examination.

The abduction, allegedly carried out by cultists, had prompted the Vice Chancellor, Professor Isaac Zeb-Obipi, to suspend academic activities at the campus temporarily due to widespread insecurity.

Following the successful hostage rescue, the Police have launched an intensive manhunt to track down and apprehend the fleeing kidnappers. The Command has reassured the public that sustained efforts are underway to maintain the safety of students and staff and ensure that the perpetrators of the violent crime are brought to justice.
