Abuja, Nigeria — Amidst ongoing national discussions about security and cohesion, the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, delivered a powerful message of hope and national unity on Sunday, asserting that the country “will not disintegrate” and will emerge stronger from its current challenges.

The First Lady’s message was shared during a thanksgiving service in Abuja held for the Investiture and presentation of Most Rev. Sunday Onuoha as Archbishop on Special Duties at the Methodist Church Nigeria.

She was represented at the event by the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Bishop Stephen Adegbite.

A Call for Divine Help and Prayer

Senator Tinubu was emphatic in her declaration that Nigeria’s stability rests on divine intervention and the collective prayers of its citizens.

“Nigeria will not disintegrate. Nigeria will remain one indivisible entity. God will be with Nigeria,” she stated, urging Nigerians to continuously pray for the nation and the Church.

Acknowledging the challenges facing the country, particularly regarding security, she stressed that Nigeria needs help, but not one that comes with “intimidation.”

  • She called on Nigerians not to live in denial about the nation’s struggles.
  • She expressed confidence that God, who kept the Israelites for 40 years in the wilderness, will see Nigeria through its current situation, allowing it to “come out stronger and better in peace.”

Welcoming Support, Rejecting Intimidation
Addressing the issue of seeking external assistance, Mrs. Tinubu made it clear that while Nigeria welcomes support, it will maintain its dignity.

“Whoever wants to give Nigeria help is welcome, but never with intimidation,” she asserted.

The First Lady’s representative also highlighted the critical role of faith-based organisations and collaboration in nation-building, urging the Church to “bring messages of hope, peace, and unity to inspire progress.”

Archbishop Onuoha, the celebrant, echoed the call for unity and acknowledged the need for assistance in security matters, stating that seeking such help is no different from seeking financial support.

He stressed the importance of ending the “blame game” and coming together as a nation to solve the collective problems.
An Assurance of Hope
The First Lady concluded her message with an assurance of a brighter future for the nation, promising that Nigerians “shall celebrate the coming Christmas in peace and in joy,” and affirming, “it shall be well with Nigeria.”
Her resolute statement is a strong reaffirmation of the government’s commitment to the nation’s unity amidst various socio-political and economic pressures, positioning faith and collective effort as the cornerstones of national resilience.
