Federal Government Sanctions Massive Recruitment of 94,000 Security Personnel to Combat Insecurity

The Federal Government (FG) has given the green light for the large-scale recruitment of over 94,000 new personnel into various security services as a critical measure to confront escalating insecurity across Nigeria. This mandate follows President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a nationwide security emergency.
Under the comprehensive plan, the Police Service Commission (PSC) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) are set to recruit 50,000 police constables. The official application portal for this intake will be open to eligible Nigerians from December 15, 2025, to January 25, 2026.
Applicants for the General Duty cadre require five credits, including English and Mathematics, while the Specialist cadre requires four credits and relevant trade test certifications.
In addition to the police, the Nigerian Army is expected to recruit approximately 14,000 new soldiers. The Nigerian Navy and Nigerian Air Force are also scheduled to significantly increase their intakes. Furthermore, the Ministry of Interior is expediting the onboarding of 30,000 personnel into paramilitary agencies, bringing the total approved enlistment to over 94,000.
This significant injection of manpower is intended to bolster community policing, expand the security footprint, and strengthen the fight against terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping. State governors and security experts have welcomed the decision, emphasizing the nation’s urgent need for “more boots on the ground.”
