Federal Government Brokers Peace, Announces End of PENGASSAN and Dangote Refinery Industrial Dispute

The Federal Government has successfully brokered a peace deal, bringing an end to the two-day industrial face-off between the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN). The rift, which severely impacted the nation’s power supply, was resolved following lengthy conciliation meetings led by top government officials.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Mohammed Maigari Dingyadi, confirmed the breakthrough in the early hours of Wednesday, outlining the key resolutions reached by all parties.

Key Resolutions of the FG Ends Dangote PENGASSAN Rift Redeployment Deal:
The agreement, struck in the presence of high-ranking officials including the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, ensures immediate resolution of the crisis:

Redeployment of Staff: The management of the Dangote Group has agreed to immediately begin the process of redeploying the disengaged staff to other companies within the group. Crucially, this redeployment will be done with no loss of pay.

Respect for Unionisation: The Minister affirmed that unionisation is a right of workers in Nigeria and must be respected by the company.

No Victimisation: Both parties agreed that no worker will be victimized arising from their role in the impasse.

Strike Suspension: PENGASSAN has committed to initiating the process of calling off the strike.

The resolution is expected to quickly normalize gas supply, which was heavily disrupted by the strike, leading to a massive drop in the national power grid below 4,000MW. The successful intervention by the Federal Government prevents further economic fallout and secures the jobs of the disengaged workers through redeployment within the vast Dangote Group empire.
