The Vice-Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, Datti Baba-Ahmed, has publicly criticized the perennial presidential bids of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. Speaking during a recent media engagement, Baba-Ahmed contrasted his own political trajectory with Atiku’s decade-long pursuit of the presidency.

Baba-Ahmed suggested that the persistent attempts by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain to lead the country reflect a refusal to step aside for a new generation of leaders. He pointedly remarked on his own experience, noting that while he was focused on building institutions and making personal sacrifices for the nation’s democratic growth, others remained preoccupied with self-perpetuating political cycles.

He noted that the “Obidient” movement had already signaled a shift in the Nigerian psyche, moving away from traditional power blocks represented by the likes of Atiku and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
