The Marvel Cinematic Universe is currently at the center of a massive casting whirlwind as rumors intensify regarding the future of the Black Panther mantle.

Reports from industry insiders suggest that Damson Idris, the breakout star of Snowfall and the upcoming F1 film, is the frontrunner to portray a new version of the protector of Wakanda in Avengers: Doomsday.

While Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed the casting, the speculation has reached a fever pitch following several high-profile sightings and cryptic statements from the actor himself.

The Origins of the Casting Rumors

Talk of Idris joining the MCU first gained traction in late 2025.

The fire was fueled by a series of public appearances and leaked information:

  • Vogue World Appearance: Idris was spotted walking the runway at a Vogue World event alongside Angela Bassett (Queen Ramonda) and Danai Gurira (Okoye).

Fans interpreted this as a soft launch for his inclusion in the Wakandan royal circle.

  • Cryptic Interviews: When questioned about the role on the Today show, Idris gave a playful “yes and no” response. He later told Time magazine he “knew nothing about it” while laughing, a common tactic for actors under Marvel non-disclosure agreements.
  • Concept Art Leaks: Alleged concept art from the production of Avengers: Doomsday surfaced online, reportedly showing a Black Panther suit designed for an actor with Idris’s physical build.

Potential Roles in the Multiverse

Because Letitia Wright’s Shuri currently holds the mantle in the primary MCU timeline, fans are theorizing how Idris could fit into the narrative of Avengers: Doomsday. There are two prevailing theories:

  1. A Multiverse Variant: With the film focusing on Doctor Doom and the collapse of the multiverse, Idris could play a version of T’Challa from another reality.
  2. An Adult Prince Toussaint: Idris could portray an aged-up version of T’Challa’s son, Toussaint (introduced at the end of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever), potentially arriving via time travel or a multiversal jump.

What This Means for Avengers: Doomsday

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Avengers: Doomsday is set to be a massive ensemble featuring Robert Downey Jr. as Victor von Doom.

If Idris is indeed cast, he would join a confirmed roster that includes Anthony Mackie, Benedict Cumberbatch, and the cast of the Fantastic Four.

Introducing a new Black Panther would allow Marvel to honor the legacy of Chadwick Boseman while ensuring the character remains a central pillar of the Avengers moving forward.
