Crisis in Kogi: Helicopter and Anti-Kidnapping Squad Deployed After Bandits Attack Church

The Kogi State Government has launched a massive aerial and ground security operation following a brazen attack by armed bandits on a church in the Ejiba community, Yagba West Local Government Area, which resulted in the abduction of the pastor and several worshippers.
The shocking incident occurred earlier today, Sunday, November 30, 2025, at a Cherubim and Seraphim Church while the congregation was holding its morning service.
The armed men reportedly stormed the church, kidnapping the pastor, known as “Pastor Orlando,” his wife, and an unconfirmed number of other church members.
Swift Government Response
The attack has sent waves of fear and anxiety through the Ejiba community, but the State Government’s response was swift.
Video footage confirmed the deployment of a helicopter for aerial surveillance, alongside an Anti-Kidnapping Squad and other tactical units on the ground, all mobilized to comb the surrounding bushes and track the perpetrators.
The Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, confirmed the attack, describing it as “very sad and unfortunate.”
He assured the public that security agencies are working tirelessly to secure the safe release of the kidnapped victims.
โข Aerial and Ground Manhunt: A state-deployed helicopter is providing aerial support and surveillance.
โข Tactical Teams: The Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Quick Response Unit, and Police Mobile Force (PMF) have been deployed to the area.
โข Intelligence Gathering: Authorities are working with local vigilantes and hunters, urging citizens to be security-conscious and volunteer intelligence on suspicious movements.
A Pattern of Attacks
This latest incident underscores the persistent security challenges facing communities in the region, particularly those along the Kwara-Kogi border. Just yesterday, troops of the Nigerian Army’s 12 Brigade successfully rescued five kidnapped victims in the nearby IsanluโEgbe general area, highlighting the volatile nature of the axis.
The government has also advised churches in crime-prone, isolated, or “bush” locations to reconsider holding services in such unsecured areas for the time being.
The primary focus of the combined security operation remains the safe and immediate rescue of Pastor Orlando, his wife, and the abducted worshippers, and bringing the bandits responsible to justice.
