Chelsea’s season continues to unravel after manager Enzo Maresca confirmed that star forward Cole Palmer will be sidelined for another six weeks due to a recurring groin injury a major setback for both the player and the club’s campaign.

Speaking during a Friday press conference, Maresca made a candid admission regarding his earlier optimism about Palmer’s return:

“I was wrong. Unfortunately, he needs to be out probably six more weeks. So, yes, this is the update.”

The 23-year-old, who emerged as Chelsea’s standout performer last season with 15 Premier League goals, has not featured since September 20, when his lingering groin issue resurfaced. The injury, which first appeared during Chelsea’s congested pre-season following their Club World Cup success, has proven more stubborn than expected.

Despite the disappointing news, Maresca assured fans that Palmer’s condition does not require surgery, emphasizing that the focus is on ensuring a full recovery before his return:

“The most important thing is when he comes back, he is fully fit.”

Palmer’s extended absence will see him miss several crucial matches for both club and country, including:

  • Premier League: Sunderland, Tottenham Hotspur, Burnley, and Arsenal.
  • Champions League: Ajax, Qarabag, and Barcelona.
  • International Duty: England’s World Cup qualifiers against Serbia and Albania.

The setback also hampers Palmer’s ambitions to impress England manager Thomas Tuchel ahead of major international tournaments.

Maresca described the young forward as “a very important player for us — probably one of the best players in the Premier League,” acknowledging the immense challenge of replacing his creativity and attacking flair.

“We don’t have another player like Cole, because Cole is unique,” the manager admitted.

As Chelsea brace for a difficult stretch without their star man, attention turns to the club’s medical team and Palmer’s rehabilitation. The Blues’ faithful will be hoping that by late November, their talisman returns stronger than ever — ready to reignite a faltering season.
