Cleric Implores President Tinubu to Focus on Security, Dismisses Genocide Narrative

Sheikh Tunde Abbas Abdul-Azeez, the Founder of the Markaz-ul-Uloom School of Arabic and Islamic Studies, has strongly urged President Bola Tinubu to make the fight against insecurity in Nigeria his primary focus, cautioning him against engaging in political maneuvering ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at the school’s 40th-anniversary celebration in Lagos, Sheikh Abdul-Azeez warned that the nation’s security challenges are being dangerously prolonged by actors operating within government structures who act as sponsors of terrorism. He stated that “Life is too sacred to be politicised.”

Furthermore, the prominent Lagos cleric directly addressed international claims of genocide in Nigeria targeting Christians. He categorically dismissed the narrative of religious division, asserting that terrorists are indiscriminately killing citizens of all faiths Muslims, Christians, and non-Muslims alike. He noted that the actions of terrorists directly violate the core tenets of Islam, which forbid the killing of innocent souls.

Sheikh Abdul-Azeez appealed to both President Tinubu and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to intensify efforts to protect lives and property. He also encouraged citizens to participate in community vigilance by reporting suspicious activities to security agencies, emphasizing that collective security
