ASUU Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has declared a two-week total and comprehensive warning strike across all public universities in Nigeria.

The announcement was made by the National President of the Union, Prof. Chris Piwuna, at a press briefing in Abuja on Sunday.

Strike Details and Commencement
Duration: Two-week total and comprehensive warning strike.

Commencement Date: The strike is set to begin at midnight on Monday, October 13, 2025.

Reason for Action
The union stated that there was “nothing sufficient on ground” to stop the industrial action, which follows the expiry of a 14-day notice issued to the Federal Government on September 28, 2025.

The latest strike comes despite ongoing negotiations with the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, who had recently claimed the government was in the final phase of talks to resolve lingering disputes over welfare, funding, and the implementation of the 2009 ASUU-FGN Agreement.

Although the government cited the release of N50 billion for Earned Academic Allowances (EAA) and the inclusion of N150 billion in the 2025 budget for needs assessment, ASUU’s decision confirms that the concessions made by the government were deemed inadequate to address the union’s outstanding demands.
