International Men's Day 2025

International Men’s Day (IMD) is observed globally on November 19, with a mission far deeper than celebration. It is a day dedicated to addressing the issues affecting men’s health, well-being, and equality while promoting positive masculinity and responsible role modeling.

Although often misunderstood as a response to International Women’s Day, IMD is anchored in six core pillars that focus on improving health, highlighting positive role models, fostering equality, and enhancing overall well-being.

2025 Theme: Celebrating Men and Boys
The theme for International Men’s Day 2025 is “Celebrating Men and Boys,” emphasizing the importance of recognizing men’s contributions in families, communities, and society at large. This year, many countries, including Australia and the UK, are also introducing a parallel theme: “Supporting Men and Boys.” This added focus underscores the urgent need to address male health challenges.

The Silent Crisis: Men’s Mental Health
Men continue to face significant, often unspoken struggles, especially in mental health.

Suicide remains a leading cause of death among men worldwide. The “Zero Male Suicide” advocacy gaining momentum this year draws attention to the cultural stigma that keeps many men silent about their struggles.
Men also experience a health gap, often living shorter lives due to late diagnoses and reluctance to seek medical help.
Societal expectations further deepen the crisis, promoting ideals that discourage vulnerability and emotional expression. International Men’s Day aims to challenge these harmful stereotypes and encourage healthier conversations.

Celebrating Positive Role Models
A key objective of IMD is to highlight positive male role models—the fathers, mentors, friends, and leaders whose influence promotes compassion, responsibility, and integrity. By showcasing men who embrace empathy and break old stereotypes, IMD encourages healthier definitions of masculinity for younger generations.

A Brief History
International Men’s Day began in 1999 in Trinidad and Tobago, introduced by Dr. Jerome Teelucksingh. Inspired by his father and the need to promote positive male influences, his idea has grown into a global observance recognized in more than 80 countries today.

How to Observe International Men’s Day
Across the world, the day is marked with conversations and initiatives designed to support men’s well-being.

Workplaces are holding discussions on men’s mental health, work-life balance, and stress management.
Community organizations are running awareness campaigns, fundraising for men’s health charities such as Movember, and recognizing community heroes.
On a personal level, meaningful check-ins remain one of the most powerful ways to show support—simply asking a friend, father, brother, or colleague how they are truly feeling can make a difference.

This year’s International Men’s Day calls for both appreciation and action. It encourages society to value the men in our lives while fostering an environment where they can be emotionally open, mentally healthy, and fully supported.
