The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially unveiled the highly anticipated shortlist for the CAF Player of the Year Award, confirming that the battle for Africa’s top individual football honor will be fought between three global superstars Victor Osimhen, Mohamed Salah, and Achraf Hakimi.
Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen, who led Napoli to a historic Serie A title, stands as the frontrunner after a season filled with record-breaking performances and consistency in front of goal. His dominance in Italy and influence on the Nigerian national team have made him a fan favorite for the crown.
Challenging him closely is Mohamed Salah, the Egyptian and Liverpool forward, who remains one of Africa’s most consistent performers in the Premier League. Salah’s impressive goal tally and leadership for both club and country ensure his continued presence among the continent’s elite.
Completing the top trio is Achraf Hakimi of Morocco and Paris Saint-Germain. The right-back was instrumental in Morocco’s historic World Cup semifinal run in Qatar and PSG’s domestic triumphs, earning widespread recognition for his defensive solidity and attacking flair.
While Osimhen, Salah, and Hakimi headline the list, CAF’s full nomination roster features a rich blend of talent from across the continent. Among the notable names are Frank Anguissa (Cameroon), Fiston Mayele (Congo), Denis Bouanga (Gabon), Serhou Guirassy (Guinea), Oussama Lamlioui (Morocco), and Iliman Ndiaye and Pape Matar Sarr (Senegal).
