Former Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has officially declared his support for Nigeria as they prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup African playoffs. The French German tactician, who guided the Super Eagles between 2016 and 2021, believes the current squad has what it takes to secure a World Cup ticket.

Despite currently managing the Benin Republic national team, Rohr’s emotional connection to Nigeria remains strong. Speaking on Brila FM, he expressed full confidence in his former players’ ability to deliver results when it matters most.

“Super Eagles have so many high-level players and strikers. We tried against them but we could not do it… but I will be supporting the Super Eagles in the playoffs,” Rohr said.

Rohr’s statement adds a morale boost for Nigerian fans, coming from a respected coach who knows the team’s strengths and the African football landscape inside out.

The Super Eagles, now managed by Eric Chelle, are set for a tense showdown in the 2026 World Cup qualifying playoffs in Morocco. They will face Gabon in the semi-final on Thursday, November 13, at the Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassan Sports Complex in Rabat.

Elsewhere, Cameroon will battle DR Congo in the other semi-final on the same day. The winners of both ties will meet in the final, with the victor claiming Africa’s final qualification spot for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Rohr’s endorsement of the Super Eagles highlights Nigeria’s quality, depth, and determination as they aim to make a return to football’s biggest stage.
