In a significant political development, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State has impeached its embattled State Chairman, Alphonsus Eba. The removal was executed by the State Executive Committee (SEC) after Eba reportedly refused to resign despite facing repeated pressure from various party factions.
The immediate removal of Eba, who had previously faced calls for his exit, is expected to reshape the internal power dynamics within the ruling party in the state. According to reports, the impeachment aligns with Section 17(6) of the APC constitution, which empowers the SEC to appoint a replacement following the removal of a substantive chairman.
Following the decision, Ntufam Ekum Ojogu has been appointed as the acting chairman. Ojogu will now assume responsibility for managing the party’s affairs until a substantive replacement can be elected and formally ratified during a state congress.
This development underscores the ongoing political crisis and internal wrangling that continues to plague the Cross River APC. The party leadership hopes this swift, decisive action will restore unity and stability ahead of future elections.
