Abeokuta is alive with celebration as the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, His Royal Majesty Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo III, marks his 20th Coronation Anniversary. The milestone, which has attracted dignitaries from across Nigeria and beyond, is being commemorated with a series of events, including the installation of new Egba chiefs at the Ake Palace.
The ceremony underscores the resilience and continuity of the Egba traditional institution. The newly installed chiefs, selected from distinguished professionals and respected community figures, are expected to contribute their expertise and influence toward the ongoing development and advancement of Egbaland. The Alake emphasized that the chieftaincy titles represent a commitment to service rather than ceremonial prestige.
Since ascending the throne in 2005, Oba Gbadebo has championed unity, peace, and socio-economic growth throughout Egbaland. He often credits the collective harmony within the Egba community as the driving force behind the progress recorded over the last two decades. The anniversary activities have included bursary awards to students of tertiary institutions, cultural performances, thanksgiving services, and a variety of empowerment initiatives.
Addressing the new chiefs and the wider Egba people, the Alake reaffirmed the importance of protecting cultural heritage and traditional values, particularly among younger generations. He described the chieftaincy conferments as a symbolic bridge connecting the past with the future and preserving the identity of Ogun Stateโs historic kingdom.
The installation ceremony serves as a significant highlight of the 20th Coronation Anniversary, reinforcing the Alakeโs commitment to strengthening leadership structures and sustaining the cultural legacy of Egbaland for future generations.
