Abia State Governor Alex Otti has issued a stern and unapologetic warning to individuals or political groups allegedly planning to rig the 2027 governorship election in the state. In a bold declaration during his monthly media chat, the governor stated that those intending to subvert the people’s will should “write their will” before attempting any illegal act.
Governor Otti, who came into office under the Labour Party in 2023, made it clear that his administration will not tolerate electoral manipulation or intimidation.
“If they must write result, they should write something else before that time their will,” he said pointedly. “Because this is our state; nobody can intimidate us.”
He reiterated that the power to choose Abia’s next governor lies solely with the people, not political godfathers or external influences.
Beyond the anti-rigging message, Governor Otti also cautioned political aspirants against early or unauthorized campaigning, emphasizing that such actions violate the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) guidelines.
“When you gather people and say you’ll take over the state in 2027, you are campaigning. It is not right,” he warned.
He urged all politicians to wait for INEC’s official timetable before embarking on campaign activities, emphasizing that due process must be followed.
Governor Otti concluded his remarks by reaffirming his administration’s unwavering commitment to transparent and credible elections, noting that Abia will continue to uphold the principles of democracy and good governance.
“Once INEC blows the whistle, anyone can run; it is for Abia people to decide who will be their governor,” he affirmed.
His statement sends a powerful message that electoral malpractice will not be tolerated under his leadership, setting a firm tone ahead of the 2027 election season.
