₦460 Million Lifeline: Sanwo-Olu Empowers 1,000 Lagos Residents in Latest Eko Cares Initiative Disbursement

The Lagos State Government, led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has once again demonstrated its dedication to social welfare by disbursing ₦460 million in financial assistance to 1,000 vulnerable residents under the Eko Cares Initiative. This initiative, specifically through its Financial Assistance Programme, is aimed at easing the economic struggles of Lagosians facing financial hardship in the current challenging climate.
The official presentation ceremony took place at the Blue Roof in Ikeja and was overseen by Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat. Governor Sanwo-Olu described the initiative as an expression of compassion-driven governance, emphasizing that true progress should be measured by empathy and human impact rather than just physical infrastructure.
The Eko Cares Initiative, organized by the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement (OPL&CE), serves as a social safety net for residents in need. This ₦460 million disbursement is part of an ongoing, large-scale empowerment scheme designed to promote inclusivity and stability across the state. So far, ₦1.1 billion has been disbursed to 2,477 residents in 2024 alone, and an additional ₦1.6 billion has been earmarked to support another 2,850 beneficiaries before the year ends.
Governor Sanwo-Olu described the programme as more than a ceremonial gesture, calling it a “celebration of compassion and shared humanity.” He noted that the initiative reinforces trust and partnership between the government and the people, ensuring that no Lagosian is left behind in the state’s economic progress.
In his message to beneficiaries, the Governor encouraged recipients to see the funds as an opportunity for growth and empowerment rather than mere financial relief. “See this not just as financial aid but as a seed of hope,” he said. “Use it to grow your business, stabilise your home, or build your next breakthrough. Government can open doors, but it’s your determination that keeps them open.”
The latest Sanwo-Olu ₦460 Million Eko Cares disbursement is a reflection of Lagos State’s evolving approach to governance—one that prioritizes people, empathy, and sustainable empowerment. By continually investing in financial support programs for the most vulnerable, the state is fostering a future where compassion and opportunity work hand in hand.
